İngilizcede nobody, nothing, nowhere, never, no, hardly gibi kelimeleri kullanarak olumsuz cümle oluşturabiliriz. Bu kelimeleri kullandığımız cümlelerde not kullanmayız.

Aşağıdaki örnek cümleleri inceleyelim:

• Nobody loves me.

Beni hiçkimse sevmez. Bu cümlenin anlamı olumsuzdur.

• He said nothing.
• She never writes to me.
• I have got no money.
• I can hardly understand him.

Aşağıdaki cümlelerin nasıl değiştirildiğini inceleyelim:

• She didn’t say anything. She said nothing.
• I didn’t see anybody. I saw nobody.
• We didn’t have any trouble. We have no trouble.
• My parents don’t go out. My parents never go out.
• I didn’t eat anything yesterday. I ate nothing yesterday.
• It didn’t rain for three months. It rained hardly for three months.

Aşağıdaki cümlelerin nasıl olumsuz cümle yapıldıklarına bakalım:

• I drink coffee. I don’t drink coffee.
• I drink coffee. I never drink coffee.
• Somebody telephoned. Nobody telephoned.
• My grandmother drives fast. My grandmother never drives fast.
• Andrew plays the guitar. Andrew doesn’t play guitar.
• I like Ann’s new shoes. I don’t like Ann’s new shoes.
• I watch TV. I hardly watch TV.
• Something happened this morning. Nothing happened this morning.
• Somebody wants to play tennis. Nobody wants to play tennis.
