III. Berenice (MÖ 81 – 80) was the Ptolemaic queen of Egypt for a brief period in 80 BC. She was the daughter of Ptolemy IX Soter II and Cleopatra Selene I, and the sister of Ptolemy XI Alexander II. She married her uncle Ptolemy X Alexander I, who had killed her grandmother Cleopatra III in 101 BC. She became the sole ruler of Egypt after the assassination of her husband by his own soldiers in 110 BC. However, she was forced to marry her cousin Ptolemy XI, who killed her 19 days later on the orders of the Roman dictator Sulla. She was the last member of the Ptolemaic dynasty to rule Egypt independently123
